Summer 2011

You are invited……………

There has been no structured RBC summer boat cruise for several years as there has been no interest – people have many personal commitments. Most of us want some private quiet time and family time during vacations and conversely some time to raft and socialize with friends. The beauty of boating is you can pull your anchor and do whatever you want. Therefore, what seems to work better is simply a time line of when members plan to go upriver – and an invitation to all club members to hook up for a day or so if they are also upriver. Everything is loose as there is no itinerary – plans can change quickly due to work, weather or family obligations. Access to mobile phones makes it easy to communicate. I have printed copies of member contact information from the RBC website and will leave at the club. I will also send it by email so you will have information access on your portable device(s):

This is who will be upriver in early August:

• Paul and I will be upriver for 2 weeks starting the first week in August
• George and Sharon will be upriver for 1 week starting the first week in August (commitments some days)
• Eric may come upriver in early August after he brings his new boat home. Congratulations on your new addition!
• Rheal and Kathy plan on being upriver from August 4 – 7

The only set date at this time is at Fredericton Friday night August 6th on the Regent Street Wharf at the Capital City Boat Club – For more information or to reserve a space, contact the Port Warden on VHF Channel 68 or telephone 506-455-1445. We usually share munchies on the wharf Friday afternoon and early evening and go out to dinner that night; and to the farmers market on Saturday morning. We have done this for several years and everyone seems to have a good time.

Understanding that most sailboat masts cannot fit under the rail bridge, there are usually moorings available at the Fredericton Yacht Club located just before the bridge. The contact listed on their website is Vice Commodore, David Drysdale (506-454-0824).You should probably call in advance. It is not very far to Regent Street Wharf by car – I called Loyal Taxi 455-6789 who advised the cost by cab is $7 pp, $1 extra pp each way. Also, we can probably arrange a pick up by tender or larger boat depending on weather (who’s under the weather 🙂 and how many people. Please call first because there is a locked gate and we can arrange for someone to open the gate. The same If you wish to come by car. Everyone welcome!!!!!
